Pet Food Myth Busters #2: Why high proportion of fresh meat?

2025年6月23日 Real Power (MY)

To truly meet a pet’s biological needs, it’s not just about the amount of protein, minerals, fats, vitamins, carbohydrates, and water—it’s about how well these nutrients can be absorbed and utilized by the body without causing stress or imbalance.

PROTEIN ISN'T JUST ABOUT NUMBERS

Source of protein is important since some essential amino acids can only be obtained from certain foods. For example, cats rely heavily on animal-based proteins to meet their essential amino acid needs. That’s why we use a high proportion of animal proteins to ensure adequate amino acid intake. To further enhance nutritional diversity, we’ve developed a multi-meat source approach—combining different fresh meats to provide a wider variety of amino acids in every meal.

When choosing pet food, many of us rely on the protein percentage listed in the Guaranteed Analysis. But here’s the truth: while protein is important, that number alone doesn’t tell you where it comes from—or whether it provides the amino acids your pet truly needs.

In today’s world of trending diets and social media advice, not all recommendations are backed by science. Feeding pets a high-protein diet may sound ideal, but it isn’t always the best approach—especially if the source of that protein isn’t right.

  • Plant-based foods (like legumes*) often lack the full spectrum of essential amino acids that dogs and cats need. Some even contain anti-nutritional factors that make it harder for pets to absorb nutrients properly.
  • Dogs may be more flexible in their diets and can benefit from a mix of animal proteins, fruits, vegetables, and grains—but animal protein should still be their primary source of nutrition.
  • Cats are carnivores, as we mentioned above, most of their essential amino acids are obtained from animal protein. Their bodies are built to thrive on meat, and animal proteins remain the most important part of their diet.
  • Senior pets or those with liver or kidney concerns may not tolerate high-protein diets well, always check with your vet before making changes.

*Legumes are acceptable ingredients in pet food as long as the recipe meets AAFCO/FEDIAF standards.

Whether you have a dog or cat, always look for animal protein as the first ingredient. A healthy mix of vegetables and fruits can be a great addition—but real, high-quality meat should be the star of the bowl. After all, our pets’ lives have evolved with us, and their nutrition should evolve too.

HOW DO YOU INCREASE THE NUTRITIONAL VALUE IN FOOD?

✔︎ High Proportion of Fresh Meat

At Real Power, we believe that better ingredients lead to better health. That’s why every formula starts with a generous amount of fresh meat.

  • Our dog food recipes contain 75%–79% fresh meat,

  • And our cat food packs an impressive 130%–140% fresh meat.

This means every 100g of kibble restores the nutritional value of up to 140g of fresh meat (unprocessed state)—providing pets with a protein-rich, meat-forward meal.

✔︎ Multi-Meat Source Solution

Each recipe blends at least 3 different types of fresh meat, creating a diverse protein profile that supports pets’ muscle development, immune health, and palatability. The variety also helps reduce the risk of single-ingredient sensitivity.

At Real Power, we go beyond the numbers on a label. Instead of simply chasing high protein percentages, our focus is on quality, digestibility, and functionality—making sure every gram of protein comes from trusted, premium sources that truly nourish your pet.

Because when it comes to your pet’s long-term health, it’s not just about more protein—it’s about the right protein.
